A hospice in Hertfordshire has received a £500 cash boost thanks to a quiz team from UK Power Networks.

The East of England highways assets team, based in Potters Bar and Bury St Edmunds, won the electricity distribution company’s charity safety quiz and decided Garden House Hospice in Letchworth Garden City should receive the £500 cheque.

Team member Neil Clarke said they chose the hospice because it had provided an invaluable service to a former colleague, Jenny Barker.

He said: “She sadly passed away after a long fight with illness on Christmas Day. The hospice helped both her and her family through a very difficult and sad time so choosing it to receive the money was quite poignant for us.”

Jenny Lupton, general manager at Garden House Hospice, said: “It was our privilege to have been able to help care for Jenny. We are very grateful to all concerned for choosing to support us in this way and can assure you that the monies raised will really help us to continue to provide care for those patients needing the support of the hospice team.”
