Major fleet operators have received expert advice to help them make the switch to electric vehicles.

UK Power Networks which runs the electricity networks across London, the East and South East held a workshop after the companies requested more information about how they could recharge electric vehicles or increase their electric fleet.

The session, which was held last month, was attended by 13 London-based companies and organisations.

Suleman Alli, director of safety, strategy and support services, said: “The electrification of commercial vehicle fleets has great potential for moving London and the UK towards a low-carbon transport future.

“UK Power Networks wants to help commercial fleet operators and other stakeholders better understand how the power distribution network supports this, which is why we hosted this workshop.

“This was new territory for many of the companies, which have only considered operating petrol and diesel fleets, but the feedback was really positive with more than half of the attendees saying they felt more confident going forward with their plans for electric vehicles.”

UK Power Networks is planning to hold further workshops for fleet operators across the three areas it serves, and also runs ‘Ask the Expert’ surgeries for any individual or organisation wanting more information about connections. For more information contact asktheexpert@ukpowernetworks.co.uk
