Power firm launches new ‘Ask the Expert’ surgeries

Specialists at energy firm UK Power Networks are developing the ‘Ask the Expert’ service by introducing one-to-one surgeries for customers who need technical advice on their electrical connections.

Specialists at energy firm UK Power Networks are developing the ‘Ask the Expert’ service by introducing one-to-one surgeries for customers who need technical advice on their electrical connections.

The company, which owns and operates the electricity networks in the East of England, London and the South East, decided to set up the surgeries following feedback from customers at recent forums.

The surgeries, which are one-to-one and last 90 minutes, are being held at venues across UK Power Networks’ three distribution areas from next month as required.

Mark Edwards, who manages the Ask the Expert service at UK Power Networks’, said: “Customers told us they would like one-to-one discussions with us before they submit applications for connections to the electricity network, so we are introducing these ‘Ask the Expert’ surgeries to provide the pre-application technical support they need.

“We’re hoping the 90-minute slots will give customers enough time with our design teams to discuss complex projects and cover off topics such as network demand and capacity, substation location and design, legal issues, traffic management and earthing concerns.

“These surgeries are open to all our customers who are planning complex projects involving new or altered connections to the electricity network, whether they are individuals, businesses or developers.”

The sessions are free of charge and will be booked on a first-come-first served basis via the connections page on the website www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk or by emailing asktheexpert@ukpowernetworks.co.uk.
