Hadleigh Rugby Club’s U14s will no longer have to brave the elements in between matches anymore thanks to a little help from UK Power Networks.

The company, which delivers electricity to eight million customers across East Anglia, London and the South East, has given the club a much-needed £250 grant as part of its Team Sport Award programme.

It donated the money following an application from employee Graeme Woolacott-Crow, who is one of the coaches and whose son plays for the team.

Graeme said: “We often take part in tournaments that can go on for several hours and had no way to shelter from the weather.

“I nominated the club for a team sports award to enable us to purchase a large gazebo that we can use if it is hot, wet and cold as the worst thing is not having some ware to keep cool or dry and warm when not playing.

“We were delighted to get the award and have already purchased the gazebo in time for the start of the season.”

The Team Sport Award scheme is designed to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and development of sporting opportunities.

Hundreds of community and sports groups have benefited from grants since the scheme was set up. Last year £15,500 was donated to sporting groups connected to UK Power Networks staff.
