Biggleswade RFC U11s are set to get new kit bags thanks to a little help from UK Power Networks.

The company, which delivers electricity to eight million customers across East Anglia, London and the South East through its vast infrastructure of overhead power lines, underground cables and substations, has given the club a £250 grant as part of its Team Sport Award programme.

It donated the money following an application from employee Noel Jukes from Stotfold, on the Hertfordshire/Bedfordshire border. Field engineer Noel helps with the coaching side of the club while wife Carly, an occupational health and safety and sustainability coach based at UK Power Networks’ offices in Stevenage, helps with first aid and catering. Their 10-year-old son Morgan plays for the team.

Noel, who is based at UK Power Networks’ office in Covent Garden, London, said: “We’re really grateful to UK Power Networks for the £250 team sports award which we are using to buy new kit bags for the U10s rugby squad.

“We hope to be able to buy bags for all the team with the club badge and the children’s names on them.”

The Team Sport Award scheme encourages staff to volunteer in the community and promotes healthy living, teamwork and development of sporting opportunities.

Hundreds of community and sports groups have benefited from grants since the scheme was set up. Last year nearly £10,000 was donated to sporting groups connected to UK Power Networks staff.
