UK Power Networks has made history by becoming the first company to win the prestigious Utility of the Year Award for two years running.
The company which keeps the lights on in London, the South East and East of England also won the top title in 2012, and was honoured last night (December 12) in front of a 1,500-strong crowd at the glittering Utility Week Achievement Awards ceremony in London. They are known as the ’Oscars’ of the industry, recognising companies and individuals in the gas, water and electricity utilities.
UK Power Networks has massively reduced the number and duration of power interruptions, improved information and practical help for customers, and delivered pioneering projects to prepare electricity networks to meet the changes and challenges of the future. Winning the top honour three times in five years (the company also won in 2012) is unprecedented too.
Judges from across the sector including the energy ombudsman praised UK Power Networks’ industry-leading performance across the board, from safety to reliability to customer service, while maintaining a keen focus on innovation.
Chief executive Basil Scarsella, said: "We are pleased to be again recognised by our peers for providing excellent service to our customers. External recognition for the work we do is a credit to the 6,000 employees and contractors who continue to improve reliability and customer service and at the lowest cost."
As a finalist in six categories last night, UK Power Networks was also shortlisted for capital programme management, team of the year, customer care, customer engagement and staff development.
