Young footballers score team cash award

Thundersley Rovers U7s will soon be sporting new kit thanks to a little help from UK Power Networks.

Thundersley Rovers U7s will soon be sporting new kit thanks to a little help from UK Power Networks.

The company, which delivers electricity to eight million customers across East Anglia, London and the South East through its vast infrastructure of overhead power lines, underground cables and substations, has given the club a much-needed £250 grant as part of its Team Sport Award programme.

It donated the money following an application from employee Colin Smith, who is a streetworks manager based in London as well as a coach for one of the U7s teams.

Colin said: “The boys have been playing in kits which have been passed down to them and are a few years old – as you can imagine the shirt/shorts are all different sizes and have had their day.

“The UK Power Networks grant will be used to buy my team a brand new kit which has come at a perfect time as they have just started their first ever season in the South East Essex Primary League.”

The Team Sport Award scheme is designed to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and development of sporting opportunities.

Hundreds of community and sports groups have benefited from grants since the scheme was set up. Last year £13,000 was donated to sporting groups connected to UK Power Networks staff.
