Please be aware you will need to pay for other work too

Our price is not all-inclusive. There will be additional costs and work that you will have to pay builders, electricians, councils or other third parties. These costs are numbered and explained further below.

Electricity meter

You will need to have your electricity meter removed. UK Power Networks will contact your supplier to arrange this.

Excavating in the highway

We always have to dig in the footpath or road to disconnect an underground supply. The local authority may charge us to close the footpath or road which can delay work. Please note that in rare circumstances this could cost up to £10,000 and it could take up to three months to obtain permits.

Parking

Do you have a parking space we can use to get close to the power cable? If not, there may be an extra cost incurred (£30 to £300 dependant on the rate) to arrange this with the local authority.
What next?
1. Starting the process

Firstly, you need to gather the Meter Point Administration Number (MPAN) for all of the meters that you want to be disconnected. Don’t know your MPAN number? Find out here.

Then, you need to request a disconnection of supply by calling us on 0800 085 5290 or downloading the application form on this page. Please note that meter removals only are still dealt with by your supplier.
2. Complete the application form

Please send the application form to us at at Disconnections@ukpowernetworks.co.uk or post it to Disconnections, Parkwood Industrial Estate, Bircholt Road, Maidstone, Kent, ME15 9XH
3. Quotation

After we have received your application, your dedicated coordinator will provide you with a formal quotation* that will be valid for 90 days, after which time your quote will expire.

*subject to site survey.
4. Payment

Once you have received the quote and are happy to proceed with the disconnection, you can agree to the works by making payment in full to UK Power Networks. Details of how to make payment can be found on your quotation.
5. Notifying your supplier

We will notify your supplier on your behalf and give statutory notice to allow removal of their equipment.
6. Scheduling works

Your co-ordinator will try and schedule the works to meet your desired dates. This is not always possible as the local authority has to agree to our requested dates, co-ordinating any potential conflicts with other planned utility works.
7. Works on site

It is your responsibility to ensure that there are no obstacles that may delay works from being carried out on the agreed date. For example, your supplier should have removed the meter prior to works starting, the disconnection area should be clear from stored items or scaffolding.

Either you or a nominated site contact must be available on the day to ensure we have access to our equipment inside the property.
