UK Power Networks Services Powerlink Ltd has approximately 270 permanent staff, based at 4 main locations:

Powerlink House

Our head office in Camden Town accommodates the majority of project management, asset management, system design & performance, commercial, and health & safety personnel.

Network Control Centre

We operate our own dedicated Network Control Centre from premises located near Leicester Square.  In addition, we maintain a duplicated Emergency Control Room at a remote location, which is on hot standby at all times to take over in the event of the non-availability of the main control centre.  The whole network is monitored and controlled by a sophisticated SCADA (System Control and Data Acquisition) system.

Tufnell Park

The main operations and maintenance activities are managed and carried out from our depot at Tufnell Park in North London.  This is the base for our operational staff, including technicians, fitters, and HV cable jointing teams.  Tufnell Park also accommodates the main stores, although there are other smaller strategic stores located around London for the secure storage of assets.

Greenwich Power Station

Greenwich Power Station is one of the oldest functioning power stations in the world.  Originally completed in 1908 to provide power to London’s trams, it now accommodates seven Rolls Royce Avon jet engines, each coupled to 14 megawatt generator sets.  The power station is at readiness 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to provide emergency power to the London Underground system at 15 minutes notice.  Greenwich also provides standing reserve capacity and generates to support the National Grid on a commercial basis.
