The Olympic and Paralympic Route Network
Print pageThe Olympic Route Network and Paralympic Route Network will comprise a network of existing roads around London and the UK to allow athletes, media and officials to get to and from events on time while also keeping London moving. A map is available at www.london2012.com/olympic-route-network/home.html
Under the London Olympic and Paralympic Games Act 2006, highway authorities are required to obtain the Olympic Delivery Authority’s approval before sanctioning any roadworks which may affect the implementation of the Olympic Transport Plan, any part of the Olympic Route Network, travel to or from a London Olympic event, or other travel connected with the Games.
Therefore, highway authorities will use their powers under the Traffic Management Act 2004 and the New Road and Street Works Act 1991 to ensure important roads are clear of planned works, such as new or altered electricity connection services, before and during the Games.
As a result, UK Power Networks will not be allowed to carry out some planned work.
