UK Power Networks Green action plan

UK Power Networks launched its Green Action Plan in 2019, addressing areas where it impacts on the environment. The Green Action Plan has defined clear objectives with deadlines to help play its part in handing on a sustainable planet to future generations.

Our new Green Action Plan gives a framework to our ambitions to reduce waste, water usage, carbon emissions, and air and noise pollution while increasing the biodiversity at many of our sites. It will be an evolving document that will be further developed over time with new more challenging targets developed as we meet earlier targets.

UK Power Networks becomes first UK electricity DNO to achieve Carbon Trust Standard for Carbon.

UK Power Networks has become the first electricity network operator to achieve the Carbon Trust Standard for Carbon. Achieving this certification is a key step in our Green Action Plan, as we seek to minimise our impact on the environment whilst at the same time helping communities reach the UK government’s target of net zero emissions by 2050. We were also recognised by the Carbon Trust for having a well-defined responsibility structure in place for carbon management which engages individuals at all levels of the organisation.

The Carbon Trust’s Standard for Carbon is the world’s leading independent certification of an organisation’s achievements in managing and reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and recognising organisations that achieve year-on-year reductions. We were certified for having an absolute reduction of 6.6% in carbon emissions since 2016/17. This contributed to our overall reduction of 20.5% since the year against which Ofgem require us to baseline - 2014/15.
