Power cuts are rare but, in the digital age, I think they are more disruptive to our daily lives than ever before. I’d find it really irritating if I couldn’t charge my mobile phone, boil the kettle or use the internet but for some of our most vulnerable customers a blackout is very worrying or may even threaten their heath.

Our engineers are still working really hard to fix the damage caused in Monday’s storm. I want to share with you some photos of the damage they've seen and have since repaired.

When the storm struck last night, power was initially cut to about 300,000 customers but engineers restored it to most within two or three minutes. Our engineers then worked really hard in terrible weather conditions.

Thanks for all of your entries to our Christmas lights competition. Picking just five winners was a challenge.

I’m used to dealing with storms and fallen trees, I’ve worked here for 29 years and have seen my fair share. But when I got to Walcott I’d never seen anything like it. It had just been hit by the biggest tidal surge in 60 years and nothing could prepare me for the scene of devastation.
