A smart look at our smarter future – consultation extended to 29 September

Delivering the energy system that our future demands, and deserves, is creating significant change for all of us in the industry. At a time of change it important that we collaborate, listen and share.

How do we deliver a system that is flexible, affordable and stable? How do we enable the rise of new technologies such as battery storage and electric vehicles while keeping the needs of the consumer at the heart of what we do?

These are the questions that industry and others are working together to answer. I was delighted to take part in UK Power Networks’ Future Smart event on September 8th, which saw colleagues, academics, energy users, generators, consumer representatives - and others with an interest in our energy system – grapple with the challenges and opportunities at the heart of our smart energy future.

Having such a diverse and insightful group of stakeholders in the room really helped us understand and focus our priorities as we transition to being a Distribution System Operator, in order to help us enable the future needs of all consumers. There were some really interesting learnings that we are now working on integrating into our plans, and much food for thought.

We want to continue to listen and gather your feedback to shape our future plans. By last Friday, we received over 20 consultation responses. Thank you to everyone who has participated so far.

Stakeholders have asked for some more time to respond. We have listened and I am pleased to announce we are extending our Future Smart consultation close to 29 September.

Therefore, there’s still time for you to have your say on how the energy systems of the future will operate, by visiting the microsite and answering our consultation questions.

With your support and insights, we can help create a smarter future for all.
