Red Cross week

Posted on 12 May 2014 04:41 PM by fulle4s

Across our offices today hundreds of our employees supported a national fundraising appeal by the British Red Cross, our fantastic charity partner. It’s their volunteers who visit our vulnerable customers during power cuts.

To thank them for the great work they do our staff in London, Crawley, Maidstone, Ipswich, Potters Bar and Bury St Edmunds held a car wash, cake sales and dress down days.

Get free help during power cuts
We’re also marking the day by appealing to those of you who would be vulnerable during a power cut in London, the South East and East Anglia to sign up for the free help we can give you during power cuts.

We’ll only use your details to help you when your electricity is off. We won’t share those details with any third parties, apart from the Red Cross or the emergency services, and only then if you want us to do that or if life-saving care is needed.

Join the other 378,614 people on our list
Although there are currently a staggering 378,614 people on our register we think lots more people could and should be benefiting from our free service. We’d like to see tens of thousands of eligible customers registering for that help this year.

Unfortunately being on the register won’t necessarily mean we can get your lights on quicker, but if we know about a power cut affecting vulnerable people we will normally contact you with extra updates and reassurance.

Or, if it’s likely to be a longer power cut, with your agreement we can arrange for the British Red Cross to visit with blankets, hot drinks, emotional support and hot water to sterilise medical equipment or warm baby milk.

Who can join?
Anyone in London, the South East or East Anglia can apply if you:
• Are dependent on electricity for medical equipment such as oxygen, nebulizers, dialysis, apnoea machines, bed bath hoists or chair lifts
• Are chronically sick or have a disability such as blindness, deafness, speech difficulties or mobility problems
• Have a young baby or are recovering from an operation

How to register?
There are many ways to register, you can register by calling: 0800 169 9970 or you can simply apply online or you can complete the application form at the back of this booklet and email it to:
