This week is Recycle Week and this year’s theme is ‘Recycling at Home and Away’. I recycle everything I possibly can when I’m at home. And as sustainability manager for UK Power Networks I’m always looking out for ways to reduce the amount of waste we send to landfill sites.

Today is National Women in Engineering Day, a day when the Women’s Engineering Society wants to highlight the great opportunities for women in engineering. I’ve been working as an engineer for more than 20 years and, while there are not that many of us around, it’s never made the slightest difference that I’m female and it is a great career to be in.

I’m really proud to let you know about a new telephone number that you can call 24 hours a day if you ever have a power cut. Here at UK Power Networks we’ve been working with other electricity companies across the UK to make sure anyone across England, Scotland or Wales can call it to get through to the right company during a power cut.
