What are Watts (W), Kilowatts (kW) and Kilovolt Amps (kVA)?

Watts (W), Kilowatts (kW) and Kilovolt Amps (kVA) are all units of electric power. Electricians tend to work in Watts and kW and we use kVA because kVA is used when talking about sizing, equipment for power generation and distribution.

How much power do you need?
If you’re applying for a new electrical connection or asking for more power then we’ll need to know how much power you need. If you’re unsure and don’t tell us what you need then we would assume 15kVA but it’s important you get this right.
