The Ashford team has spent a £250 award from the local electricity firm on new football tops after employee, Debbie Speigel, nominated them.

A keen supporter of the local team, Debbie’s nephew Ben Codd is their goalkeeper and her brother, Glenn Codd, is a joint coach and linesman.

She explained: “It’s excellent to receive another award and we are over the moon. The team now has new tops, shorts and socks which look more professional than a mix and match kit. The funding is really important and makes such a big difference to the team.”

The team train and play matches on Sundays at Ashford Hockey Club in Ball Lane, Ashford.

The Team Sport Award scheme is run by UK Power Networks to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing sports opportunities. In the last year more than 60 local sports teams connected to UK Power Networks’ staff benefitted from a share in £15,500.
