FC Sutton Dynamo has received a £250 Team Sport Award from local electricity firm, UK Power Networks, for training balls and bibs ahead of the new season.

Coach, Stewart O’Connor, who works as a field engineer helping to keep electricity flowing in his local area, nominated the club for his employer’s award.

Stewart said: “I have been a coach with our local youth football team FC Sutton Dynamo for nearly 10 years. It is an absolute pleasure to coach and see the players develop over the years and being actively involved in this is very rewarding.

“Everyone is a volunteer at the club. It is a great little club with a great philosophy of football. We have about 11 teams across various age groups and most teams train on Saturday mornings and play on Sundays.

“Being the club treasurer I have seen first-hand the drop in income from subs due to the stop-start seasons as well as not being able to hold a tournament which is a good fundraiser. We still have leases to pay for our ground so it is a welcome time to win a Team Sport Award which we intend to purchase some new training balls and bibs with.”

The Team Sport Awards scheme is run by UK Power Networks to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing sports opportunities. In 2020, more than 60 local sports teams connected to UK Power Networks’ staff benefited from a share in £15,500.
