We are dedicated to helping journalists with articles and broadcasts, and providing all our latest news. You’ll also find contact details for our press team plus a brief overview of UK Power Networks.

Who we are
UK Power Networks is owned by the Cheung Kong Group (CKG) which operates in 54 countries and successfully operates electricity distribution businesses in Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand.

What we do
We distribute approximately 27% of the UK’s electricity, serving eight million homes and businesses in London, the South East and East of England. So regardless of who you pay your electricity bill to, if you live or work in these areas it’s our 130,000 substations and 170,000 km of overhead lines and underground cables which deliver power to your property.

UK Power Networks invests more than £500 million in its electricity networks every year. We are also the country’s biggest connections business, carrying out approximately 100,000 new connections to the network every year and encouraging competition in the marketplace. We are undertaking trials to ensure our electricity networks support the transition to a low carbon future.

We have 5,600 staff dedicated to ‘keeping the lights on’, and our company’s performance is monitored against a set of service standards developed by our industry regulator Ofgem.

Our track record

Since UK Power Networks was created in November 2010, it has:

Achieved the best safety performance in the industry – it’s our top priority to keep staff and the public safe
Reduced the frequency of power cuts by a quarter and slashed average duration by half
Delivered reliable supplies to our areas including London, and major events including the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012
We have repeatedly been named Utility of the Year and a Top 25 Best Big Company to Work For  – to find out more about our success see here
Invested in new technology to adapt the electricity networks for future needs, such as developing the UK’s first ‘big battery’ storage system and we have connected 140,000 wind and solar farms to the networks
Achieved a customer satisfaction rate of 87% and we strive to continually improve
