Peacehaven players kick out mix and match kit

Football players in Peacehaven are celebrating the new season with a smart new look.

UK Power Networks awarded a £250 Team Sport Award to Peacehaven and Telscombe Football Club towards the cost of new shirts, shorts and socks for the third team. Together with a second grant, the team will be dressed for success this season.

Nick Smedley, a senior project manager at the electricity firm, nominated the club for his employer’s grant scheme. His son, Daniel, played for the team until he recently moved to a new area.

Nick said: “They couldn’t wait to start playing football this season. They were looking forward to pulling on their new shirts to play football and see their mates. It feels like going back to some sort of normality. My son played football in Peacehaven for about 22 years and has made a strong circle of friends through the club and attending the same school.

“The club is always looking for donations to help with their finances. A lot of football clubs are finding it tough at the moment and they rely heavily on sponsorship and donations, so they are really grateful to receive this support, which will help a lot, so the players don’t have to ‘mix and match’ socks and shorts.”

The team competes in the Mid Sussex South Division 3. Training is normally on Wednesday and home matches are played on Saturdays at The Sports Park in Piddinghoe Avenue.

The Team Sport Award scheme is run by UK Power Networks to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing sports opportunities. In 2020, more than 60 local sports teams connected to UK Power Networks’ staff benefitted from a share in £15,500.
