Angel Baton Twirlers fly high

A group of Norwich baton twirlers are taking to the Disney World stage in Florida looking super smart thanks to some help from UK Power Networks.

The Angel Baton Twirlers have been invited to perform a continuous 30-minute display in America in August and are in need of matching outfits. The UK’s largest electrical distribution company gave them a Team Sport Award of £250 through employee Darren Cheadle whose stepdaughters are in the team.

Darren, a project designer based in Trowse, said that the girls usually perform as individuals or pairs but need co-ordinated outfits to perform together at Disney World. He said they were struggling to fundraise and added: “We are extremely grateful for the generous donation. The award is a great way of supporting local groups and teams and promoting sport and exercise for young people.”

The Angel Baton Twirlers have had eight of their athletes selected to represent England in the World International Cup in Limoges, France. They recently walked away with 21 area titles in the area competition across different age groups and abilities.

UK Power Networks Team Sport Award scheme is run by the company to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing sports opportunities. Last year more than 70 local sports teams connected to UK Power Networks’ staff benefitted from the cash awards.
