Lakes Legends dressage teams have been given a £250 grant as part of the Team Sport Award programme from the power company which delivers electricity to 8.3million homes and businesses across the East of England, London and the South East. They have used the money to buy eight smart saddle cloths which will stop the saddle moving and rubbing the horses backs.

The two teams, under 21s and a senior team, whose horses are based at a farm in Clifton, have just started taking part in dressage competitions and have already beaten off all competitors to be top of their leagues. The award was given through Marc Kitchener, a linesman with the company based in Letchworth.  His 14-year-old daughter is a member of the junior team.

Marc said the teams are working well and having saddle cloths in the team colour, royal blue, is helping to build team spirit. “We were very pleased to have received the sports award for the first time as it enables them to purchase the much needed saddle cloths. I think it is amazing that UK Power Networks will play such a positive role in my daughter’s future dressage competitions”, said Marc.

The dressage teams will also be holding fund raising events along with other members of the Lakes committee to raise money for the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

The Team Sport Award scheme helps staff who volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and development of sporting opportunities. Hundreds of community and sports groups have benefited from grants since the scheme was set up. Last year £18,000 was donated to sporting groups connected to UK Power Networks staff.
