Club makes net gain in Cuckfield

Cuckfield Badminton Club is celebrating a third £250 sports award from UK Power Networks.

From Press releases - 29 April 2019 12:00 AM

The club is using the electricity firm’s Team Sport Award to buy new nets and shuttlecocks.

Player and committee member, Peter Riste, a network development engineer for Britain’s largest electricity network operator, nominated his local club for the award.

He said: “We’re a friendly club catering for intermediate to advanced players of all ages. The support means we can keep the membership costs as low as possible, providing an opening for more people to play the sport.

“Badminton is more popular than ever, being a technical sport which requires stamina, agility and speed. The club offers our members regular exercise, a social network and some great opportunities for team play.”

The club meet on Tuesdays at Oathall Community College, Lindfield, from 8pm to 10pm.

UK Power Networks’ Team Sport Award scheme encourages staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and development of sporting opportunities.

Hundreds of community and sports groups have benefited from grants since the scheme was set up. Last year £18,000 was donated to sporting groups connected to UK Power Networks staff.
