Local player Hannah Farmer, an engineering assistant for the electricity network firm, nominated Sirens Netball Club for her employer’s Team Sport Award.

Hannah, who lives in East Grinstead, said: “It was brilliant to receive the award and our coach was overwhelmed. As a new team, there was a need for new kit, but the dresses are very expensive.”

Netball has been growing in popularity with many returning to the sport long after leaving school. Hannah said: “I love playing netball. Other than the health benefits there is the friendship that comes from being part of a team and it’s good for overall wellbeing. We have a commitment to the team and they need the players, so unlike individual fitness you can’t make excuses not to go.”

The team train on Mondays at East Grinstead Sports Club, in Saint Hill Road and is currently third in division two of the East Grinstead League.

The Team Sport Award scheme is run by UK Power Networks to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing sports opportunities. So far in the last year, more than 70 local sports teams connected to UK Power Networks’ staff have benefitted.
