Colin Smith, streetworks performance manager at UK Power Networks which keep the lights on in London, the South East and East Anglia, picked up his award at the Anglian & London Highway Authority and Utilities Committee Awards. The judges were looking for utility representatives that are helpful, considerate of stakeholder issues, fair, pragmatic and willing to go the extra mile to get things done. The event was attended by industry colleagues from both the utility and authority sectors.

Colin from Benfleet, Essex has worked at UK Power Networks for 16 years and is regarded by many as an expert in his field. One voter said: “Colin always goes above and beyond what is required and expected of him. He understands the Highways regulations and laws and teams have learnt so much under his tutorage.”

Another said: “Colin is the ‘go-to guy’ when my team require assistance or a subject expert. I have personally had experience of him assisting even when he was on annual leave or on a course. He is very proactive, my team always speak very highly of him.”

Colin said, “It was great to win this last year but to win it for a second year in a row is fantastic! It’s great to know that my hard work is appreciated both internally and externally.”

Over the last five years UK Power Networks has reduced the duration of power cuts by 49%, to lessen the impact on road users and residents.
