Hastings apprentice named ‘rising star’

A Hastings apprentice has been named a rising star at his company’s annual employee awards.

Tyler Smith, completed his apprenticeship training with distinction this year and now helps to keep the lights on in his community.

He was recognised by his employer, UK Power Networks, at an award ceremony in London for the teams who deliver power to 8.3 million homes and businesses across the South East, London and East of England.

Tyler said: “I was chuffed to receive this award because I’ve loved the apprenticeship and my job. There is constantly new scenery and I’m literally learning all the time.”

Paul Saunders, an engineering team leader who nominated him for the award, said: “Tyler is a worthy winner who has worked with great enthusiasm and displayed a great attitude towards his colleagues, his training, safe working practices and his desire to become a knowledgeable fitter.”

The company which employs 6,000 people, came ninth in the Best Big Companies to Work For list 2019.
