Andrew, an infrastructure planning engineer, joined the club’s hockey team to satisfy an urge to play competitive team sport while making new friends in a fun environment.

Andrew, who lives in Crawley said, “It’s fantastic to give something back to a club that has welcomed me wholeheartedly since joining last year. The money will help significantly with the day-to-day running costs of the club such as pitch hire coaching costs as well putting investment back into training equipment, for use by our junior and senior players.”

Horley Hockey Club’s mens’ ladies' and juniors train every Tuesday at Ifield Community College and have teams competing in the South Hockey, Surrey Open, Surrey Ladies and Mercian Juniors hockey leagues.

The Team Sport Award scheme is run by UK Power Networks to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and development of sporting opportunities. Hundreds of community and sport groups have benefited from grants since the scheme was set up. Last year £15,750 was donated to sporting groups connected to UK Power Networks’ staff.
