James Lewis, from Teynham, near Sittingbourne, and Richard Chadwick, from Snodland, were praised by colleagues in UK Power Networks’ annual Living our Values awards as an outstanding ‘Groundworks Duo’.

The men, who have worked together for 25 years, were described as a ‘key asset’ to the team who maintain extra high voltage electricity cables for homes and businesses. Colleagues said they were always on time, put safety first and exceeded expectations, enabling repairs to progress smoothly, maintaining reliable power supplies.

The team construct deep excavations using temporary timber to support the sides of the trench when high voltage cables are being maintained and repaired.

James said: “We didn’t know we had been nominated so it was nice to be recognised.

“We work in all weathers, no matter what. Sometimes it can be grim, when the weather is horrible, and we need to keep things clean and tidy.

“The best bit about the job is the team that we work with because we all get on with each other and we get on with the job.”

Richard added: “We are just one of the gangs and although we won the award, we are just part of the team.”

James and Richard support electricity cable repairs across Kent, Surrey and Sussex, maintaining safe and reliable electricity supplies for local homes and businesses.
