Local electricity distributor, UK Power Networks, has given the U14s team a £250 Team Sport Award after their employee, Matthew Woods, nominated the club where his daughter Natalie, is a regular player.

Matthew, a senior agent within UK Power Networks’ groundworks team, who lives in Larkfield, said: “It was a good feeling to win the award and I felt quite privileged to get it. The team was really happy and the girls are using the money to buy new training goals and kit.

“As one of the parents I help set up and take down the training kit. I wanted to give something back because the club does so much for the girls and this grant will help them to get better equipment to improve the training. The girls get enjoyment from playing a team sport, exercise and they get to meet different people.”

The club trains at Aylesford School on Thursday and hosts home matches at Larkfield Recreation Ground, off New Hythe Lane, on Sundays.

The Team Sport Award scheme is run by UK Power Networks to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and development of sporting opportunities.

Hundreds of community and sport groups have benefited from grants since the scheme was set up. Last year £15,750 was donated to sporting groups connected to UK Power Networks’ staff.
