Seasoned runner Laura Williams, who is 28, from Hempstead, is running her third marathon but is still feeling apprehensive about her first London Marathon on April 22.

Laura is running for the charity, Phab Kids, which encourages people with and without physical disabilities to come together on equal terms. She said: “I’m nervous, but excited, because my training has gone really well, which it didn’t for Brighton Marathon and I feel ready.”

The technical support assistant for UK Power Networks has already raised £1,800 with the help of her colleagues in Bircholt Road, Maidstone, where Laura works for the company that keeps the lights on in Kent.

She organised an office bake sale and Krispy Kreme fundraising event at the Maidstone offices on March 9. UK Power Networks will also be matching her fund raising up to £100.

Laura, a member of Rebel Runners Medway, said: “Phab Kids is a really great charity that provides opportunities for children with special needs and their families. I put a lot of pressure on myself to succeed, but the training is the hardest part and that has gone well this time.

“I think anyone can run a marathon but it’s more about your mentality. I like to push myself and break new boundaries, but I don’t think I will run any more marathons! The training is very time-consuming and stretches all the way through the winter. This year we had more to deal with than usual with the wet winter and snow.”
