The power company, which delivers electricity to 8.3million customers across the East of England, London and the South East, has given Elmswell Football Club a much-needed £250 grant as part of its Team Sport Award scheme.

Employee Rich Adlington applied for the contribution for Elmswell FC, based at Blackbourne Community Centre in the West Suffolk village, who have sides competing in the Suffolk and Ipswich League.

Rich, who works as a surveyor in the company’s Bury St Edmunds office, said: “The primary use for the money is new first aid kits for each team.

“With any money left over from that we will buy some training balls and if we still have further cash I know the managers of the sides are keen on new winter coats!

“It’s fantastic to receive the donation for what is a real community club. I’ve only been playing for them since last October, but I’ve really been made to feel welcome so it’s great to be able to give something back through my employer.”

The Team Sport Award scheme encourages staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and development of sporting opportunities.

Hundreds of community and sports groups have benefited from grants since the scheme was set up. Last year £18,000 was donated to sporting groups connected to UK Power Networks staff.
