The power company, which delivers electricity to 8.3million customers across the East of England, London and the South East, has given a much-needed £250 grant as part of its Team Sport Award scheme.

Employee Dave Trundley applied for the contribution for Buckingham under-sevens rugby side which he coaches on a voluntary basis.

His daughter Lucy is a player for the team who compete across Northamptonshire and Buckinghamshire as well as holding weekly training sessions managed by Dave’s wife Stacey.

Dave, who works as a field engineer in the company’s Hemel Hempstead office, said: “I give up my time for free to coach at the club and have been doing it for a couple of years now.

“The money UK Power Networks has given has enabled the team to purchase a large gazebo which is useful for a number of reasons, including staying out of any extreme weather.

“It’s a great point of contact for parents and children to see where we are during tournaments as we have our team name printed on it and, when you have down time, it’s a great place for the players to sit and bond.

“All of the parents, coaches and players involved with the club cannot thank UK Power Networks enough for their support which plays a huge role with us being able to continue on as a team.”

The Team Sport Award scheme encourages staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and development of sporting opportunities.

Hundreds of community and sports groups have benefited from grants since the scheme was set up. Last year £18,000 was donated to sporting groups connected to UK Power Networks staff.
