A major investment safeguarding power supplies for thousands of homes and businesses in Bedford is set to get underway.

From Press releases - 11 March 2020 12:00 AM

The £1.2million upgrade scheme is being led by UK Power Networks, which distributes electricity across London, the south east and east of England to 8.3 million customers.

It will see the delivery and installation of a new grid transformer at Edison Road maintaining the reliability of power to 13,675 Bedford properties.

Phil O’Blath, project manager for UK Power Networks, said: “This is a major investment in Bedford that will be of lasting value in terms of future proofing reliable power supplies, as well as the upgrade having clear environmental benefits.

“This project improving our network is one of the multi-million pound schemes we are carrying out this year with support from our Capital Programme Delivery alliance partners to make sure we continue to provide resilient power supplies for the local communities we serve.”

The company delivers electricity to 18 million people through cables, substations and power lines and invests around £600million each year in the network.
