The company, which delivers electricity to more than eight million customers across the East of England, London and the South East, has given the club a much-needed £250 grant as part of its Team Sport Award programme.

The money was donated to the Trimley Red Devils Under 12 team through Ipswich-based employee Samantha Harvey whose son plays for the team that her husband Kris manages.

Kris Harvey said: “This will make a huge difference to the team, it really does help and they are very grateful.  They need equipment to help them train for Saturday morning matches, so this grant will help them buy new equipment and help them pay for their training ground in the winter as we have to rent an all-weather pitch.”

Samantha said: “I think it’s excellent the company does this, as community teams need help to run and provide better equipment as they can’t afford the extra bits to help young children in something they all enjoy doing.”

The Team Sport Award scheme helps staff who volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and development of sporting opportunities. Hundreds of community and sports groups have benefited from grants since the scheme was set up. Last year £15,750 was donated to sporting groups connected to UK Power Networks staff.
