Second gold for Britain’s largest power network

Britain’s largest electricity distributor has received a second gold award from Investors in People.

From Press releases - 9 June 2017 12:00 AM

UK Power Networks, whose 6,000 employees keep the lights on in London, the South East and East of England, maintained the award for the way it leads and develops its workforce to continually improve the service they provide to 8.2million homes and businesses.

The Company retained its place in the top 7% of accredited organisations in a scheme that recognises high performance through good people management. Investors in People is the international standard for people management, defining what it takes to lead, support and manage people effectively to achieve sustainable results. The accreditation lasts until 2020.

UK Power Networks has major offices in London, Potters Bar, Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds, Crawley and Maidstone, plus offices and operational depots throughout the communities it serves.

Chris Degg, HR Director at UK Power Networks, said: “UK Power Networks is delighted once again to receive gold accreditation against the Investors in People standard. Since the creation of our business nearly seven years ago, we have continuously reviewed and improved our approach towards people management and this has been reflected in the ongoing progress which has been made with Investors in People.

“It is particularly pleasing to receive this gold re-accreditation against IiP’s new framework which has set an even higher standard for companies to achieve. This external accreditation from an internationally recognised organisation further complements our inclusion on the Sunday Times Best Big Companies to Work For each year for the past three years. In any business there is a clear link between engagement and investing in people and improved business performance. UK Power Networks has consistently demonstrated this link.”

Underpinning the Standard is the Investors in People framework, reflecting the latest workplace trends, essential skills and effective structures required to outperform in any industry. Investors in People enables organisations to benchmark against the best in the business on an international scale.

Paul Devoy, Head of Investors in People, said: “Investors in People accreditation is the sign of a great employer, an outperforming place to work and a clear commitment to success. UK Power Networks should be extremely proud of their achievement.”
