The boys and girls in the new Under 5 and Under 6 teams will be wearing new kit thanks to a donation from UK Power Networks, the country’s largest electricity distributor.

The Stewkley team has been proudly scoring goals since 1946 – the year when Harry Truman issued a presidential proclamation declaring an official end to the Second World War and bikinis went on sale in Paris!

Field engineer James Alcock applied for the £250 Team Sports Award from his company, UK Power Networks as his son, Alfie, has joined the Under 5s.

He said: “I think the scheme is a great idea as I can see first-hand how the money will benefit a small club like ours, the children will get a massive boost when they start training with a kit to make them feel the part, and the training equipment will enable the coaches to bring in some new drills.”

James added that the chairman and coaches were really pleased at the difference the money was making.

The Team Sport Award scheme helps staff who volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and development of sporting opportunities. Hundreds of community and sports groups have benefited from grants since the scheme was set up. Last year £18,000 was donated to sporting groups connected to UK Power Networks staff.
