    •  You would like to alter the position of your meter and service cable
    •  You would like to move your meter and service cable from an internal to external

How long will the work take?

6-8 weeks from payment

Initially, a week or so after you’ve paid, our surveyor will come out to see you for a morning or afternoon appointment to discuss the work. When we have everything in place, our expert engineers will carry out the work on a day agreed with you. You will need to be present for this. We expect this whole process to take approximately four weeks.

How much will this cost?

Average price is £1200 excluding VAT

This cost can vary considerably, depending on what’s involved. Other services which may affect the cost are explained below.

How much will this cost?

Do you have a front garden?

If you don't, then we will have to dig in the footpath or road to get to the electricity cable. Only an accredited company can dig in the highway. The local authority may charge us to close the footpath or road which can delay work. Please note that in rare circumstances this could cost up to £10,000 and it could take up to three months to obtain permits.

Do you have a parking space we can use to get close to the power cable? If not, there may be an extra cost incurred (£30 to £300 dependant on the rate) to arrange this with the local authority.

Buying your electricity meter box

You will need to buy an electricity meter box and ducting. This is to protect our cable and prices start from £70.

Employing an electrician

If you want to move the position of your meter, you will need to employ a qualified electrician who will charge you a fee for any internal wiring. For example, a fuse board. They will need to certify their work.

Fitting your meter

You need to arrange for your electricity supplier to fit the electricity meter.

What next?
1. Enquiry and application

Once you have an understanding of the potential costs involved and you are confident that you wish to go ahead. Please complete and submit an application form.
2. Quotation

Having applied, we will provide you with a formal quotation. This will be valid for 365 days, after which time the quote will expire
3. Payment

We require full payment before any work is started. Normally we accept card payments, cheques and BACS/CHAPS.

When you pay we will appoint a co-ordinator who will support you in getting your connection delivered.
4. Site visit

We will arrange a site visit to firm up plans. It is advisable for you and your electrician and possibily your builder to be there. Sometimes we might need to undertake a site visit before you have made payment.
5. Agreeing dates

We may be able to provide dates for your work with you on site. If we can't we will contact you to agree dates.
6. Your on-site work

You will need to carry out any on-site works according to the design drawn up at your site visit. You also need to ensure your electrician has completed all his works and prepared a certificate that your electricity supplier will want to see when they connect your meter.
7. Making your connection

If your new or altered supply requires us to carry out any excavations we will normally complete this one or two days before the electrical works. It is helpful if your electrician is available on the day we complete the electrical works.
8. Installing or moving your meter

You will need to arrange for your electricity supplier to fit or move your electricity meter. You should give your electricity supplier at least two weeks' notice. If you have not arranged metering you will be without power. If you are having a new meter installed we will provide you with an MPAN number to give your electricity supplier.
