Temporary connection for a commercial property or work site (temporary building supply)

0800 029 4280

Also known as a Temporary Builders Supply (TBS), you usually need this service if:

  • You are applying for up to four single-phase connections
  • You need one three-phase connection up to 70kVA (100a)
  • You are supplying premises with up to four metering points
  • The meter position is less than 43m from the nearest main (likely to be in the footpath)
How long will the work take?

11 weeks from payment

This is an approximate time that the work could take, from quote acceptance and receipt of payment. Please be aware that during periods of high workload the times indicated may vary.

How much will this cost?

Our price is from £2,200

Our price is not all-inclusive. There will be additional costs and work that you will have to pay builders, electricians, councils or other third parties. These costs are numbered on the diagram and explained further below.

How much will this cost?

An electrician

Before you can use your power tools, you will need to employ a qualified electrician who will charge you a fee for installing temporary electricity for the building site. They will need to certify their work.

Excavating in the highway

We always have to dig in the footpath or road to disconnect an underground supply. The local authority may charge us to close the footpath or road which can delay work. Please note that in rare circumstances this could cost up to £10,000 and it could take up to three months to obtain permits.

Do you have a parking space we can use to get close to the power cable? If not, there may be an extra cost incurred (£30 to £300 dependant on the rate) to arrange this with the local authority.

Electricity meter

You need to arrange for your electricity supplier to fit the electricity meter.

You will need to build a brick or GRP kiosk to house the electricity supply and electricity meter.

What next?
1. Enquiry & Application

To start the process, we need to provide you with a budget estimate or a formal quotation. For this we need to understand details of your project for example, the types of equipment you’ll be using and when you need power.
2. Assessment & Design

We will assess your application to ensure that we have all the information needed and we will contact you for any missing details. Once your project has been designed we will email you an offer or send in the post if required.
3. Acceptance & Payment

If you wish to accept the offer, you need to do two things; 1. Sign and return the acceptance form. 2. Make Payment - your payment and acceptance form must be with UK Power Networks before 5pm of the offer expiry date, otherwise your offer will lapse.
4. Project delivery

Your project will be sent to our delivery team who will provide you with their contact details and allocate a field engineer to manage and deliver your project. This engineer will be your point of contact throughout the work.
5. Install metering

Please be aware that we don’t supply any electricity meters. To arrange for a meter to be installed so the electricity connection can be utilised, you will need to appoint an electricity supplier (please note that you can appoint any electricity supplier that you like).
