How did you get my email address?
The majority of email addresses we hold for our customers have been provided by electricity suppliers, or directly by customers themselves.
Electricity suppliers pass us customer information including, name, address, email, meter information and any vulnerability information. Our Privacy Notice goes into more detail on information usage but the information is used only for the purpose of contacting you to inform you about events that will or may interrupt the distribution of electricity to you, to inform you about our services where we are required to do so, or for other lawful purposes.
We also obtain customer information directly from our customers during power cut reporting, connection requests, general enquiries and from external data suppliers. Any information supplied by external data suppliers is only ‘consented data’, meaning data which the data subject has permitted to be passed to third party organisations.
We are required by our distribution licence conditions to ‘take all reasonable steps’ to inform customers about particular services we provide. We will use your email address for this purpose where we have it unless you request us not to do so, which you may do at any time.
We ensure that your information is never used or shared for marketing purposes and this is clearly stated in our Privacy Notice.
Finally, it is important to note that any new information provided to us by your electricity supplier will overwrite data that we previously held about you, so that we only hold data that is up-to-date. This is a condition of our compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK GDPR.
