Suffolk power workers keep your energy flowing this Christmas
Customer service advisors from Ipswich will be among many working on Christmas Day to help keep the power flowing to cook our Christmas dinners and keep festive lights twinkling.
Electricity key workers Igor Kharchenko, Pauline Clarke and Tania Mpofu will be among teams supporting the 24-hour, 365-day effort to deliver electricity to doorsteps, which continues as usual throughout the festive period.
Customer services, as well as skilled engineers, linespeople and technical experts will be on duty round-the-clock across the East of England to make sure any issues on the region’s 53,000km of overhead power lines and underground cables are resolved as quickly as possible, should they occur. Investment of over £600 million a year has enabled UK Power Networks to reduce power cuts so supplies are now 99.99% reliable.
Igor, who has worked for the company for two years, said: "I will be answering phone calls if any of our customers experience power cuts. I also deal with safety issues and liaise with local authorities to make sure that we keep the public safe."
More than 1.9 million customers have signed up the company’s Priority Services Register which provides people in vulnerable circumstances with peace of mind and free extra help during power cuts, such as hot meals, home visits and hotel accommodation. This support and advice is aimed at older people, families with young children and people who depend on electrical equipment.
To apply for UK Power Networks’ Priority Services Register visit www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/priority, ring 0800 169 9970, or email psr@ukpowernetworks.co.uk. In the event of a power cut see www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk from a mobile device or ring 105.
