UK Power Networks launches new support for menopausal women
With one in ten women in the country having quit their jobs because of menopause symptoms, an electricity firm is taking a step forward to support their employees.
UK Power Networks, which delivers electricity across London, the East and South East, is launching new guidance to help managers make helpful workplace adjustments, and has introduced a new eLearning course to raise awareness among managers.
The new drive comes in the run up to World Menopause Day on October 18 and continues into November to benefit as many employees as possible. There will also be a myth-busting employee webinar, a virtual café for staff who would like to ‘drop in’ for a chat and a book giveaway.
The guidance is also aimed at making workplace adjustments to support and benefit staff with a disability and underlying health conditions.
Dawn McDonald, health and wellbeing manager at the company, said: “We want to provide safe and comfortable ways for colleagues to hold open discussions, learn from best practice and each others’ experiences, to be able to help staff who are going through this, as well as their managers.
“It’s not just about hot flushes! There really is a lot we can do as an employer to help make life better for our colleagues, at what can be a difficult time. These new initiatives come on the back of listening to, and encouraging discussion among our employees, about what would be the most effective ways for us to help.”
UK Power Networks was named first in London earlier this year, in the Best Big Companies to Work For list, and is a ‘Platinum’ level Investor in People.
