Installation of underground cables from Beddington to Addington

What are we doing?

We manage the electricity network delivering power to your area and connect and move power cables. Our engineers plan to upgrade the electricity network between Beddington Grid and Addington Grid in Croydon to maintain reliable electricity supplies for homes and businesses, manage increasing demand for electricity and support the drive to Net Zero.

What will the work entail?

We are installing new electricity cables along a 6.5km route between the two substations. We are working closely with Croydon Borough Council to plan our work and minimise disruption.

Our team will excavate trenches to lay pipework (ducts) along the route. We will then return to open excavations at intervals along the route to pull the new cables into position and connect them to our electricity network.

We will start work in October 2025 and aim to complete the project by the end of 2026.

Will there be roadworks?

Work is due to take place in stages in the roads listed in the table below.

As well as using advance warning signs, we will write to residents, businesses and councillors with further details before work is due to start in each new area.

Safety is our priority and in consultation with the local highways authority, traffic management measures will be in place as we progress along the cable route.

Work will progress in stages, with traffic management and safety barriers being moved along the route in sequence with our working area.

We aim to complete the work as safely and as efficiently as possible to minimise the impact. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
