Currently, we deliver electricity to over 8.5 million properties across our network with over 19 million people relying on our service every day. Our new planning proposal for the existing substation at Glaucus Street is part of our wider plans to reinforce our network in the capital and ensure the system is resilient for future generations.

The proposal involves the installation of two new transformers and represents a critical infrastructure project. It is aimed at increasing the capacity of the network in East London and will support new development in the Aberfeldy Village. There are already transformers operating on the site. The new transformers would be erected with mitigation measures reflective of design and noise requirements.

Tower Hamlets Council, the local planning authority, has already been informed of our proposals and we will be submitting a full planning application for their consideration.

We are currently at the pre-application stage and have reached out to local representatives, whilst engaging with the community. An engagement event will take place in January 2026. Application preparations and submissions will be delivered in February 2026.

If you have any questions at this stage, or would like to be added to our mailing list, please get in touch with us by email and we will be happy to help.

We will continue to keep the community updated. Should you have any questions at this stage, please reach out to our engagement team for this project, contactable via Charlie Power on charlie.power@stantec.com.
