Bure Valley youngsters wrap up funding for new winter jackets
A Norfolk girls’ football club will be winter ready after netting a funding boost from a local power company.
Bure Valley Youth FC received a £250 Team Sport award from UK Power Networks which distributes electricity across the East of England.
The money went towards new waterproof training jackets for the girls’ under-15s team after John Holden applied for the funds as his daughter, Scarlet-Rose, is a member of the squad.
John, who has another daughter Eleanor in the under-14s team, only became involved with the Coltishall-based club last year
John said: “Everyone at the club is really grateful for the extra funding which can be difficult to come by for community teams.
“We need the new jackets so that the girls can be prepared for what the worst of the winter may bring.
“My links to the club are fairly recent, my eldest daughter Scarlet-Rose had been playing for about eight years before switching to Bure Valley. We chose them because they’re a real family club where everyone works hard to develop the players.
“I could not be more happy with the club. It has seen rapid growth since being formed in 2015 and now has girls in every group from under-8s to under-13s.
“The club ethos is one of fun and enjoyment with girls joining from around the country. There is a link to Wroxham Women FC which provides a pathway for the girls’ progression.”
Ted McCarter, chair of Bure Valley YFC, said: “On behalf of the club and in particular the u15 Wildcats girls team I want to thank UK Power Networks for their kind and generous donation.
Grassroots football is totally reliant on sponsorship so support from businesses is greatly appreciated.”
The Team Sport Award scheme, which has seen UK Power Networks supporting community sport since 2010, encourages their employees to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing sporting opportunities.
Hundreds of community and sports groups have benefited from grants since the scheme was set up. During 2021, 77 teams benefitted to a combined sum of £19,250.
