Chertsey Town FC scores new kits from UK Power Networks
Chertsey Town FC under-13s will be donning fresh strips when their new season kicks off in September, following a £300 award from UK Power Networks.
The Team Sport Awards scheme is run by UK Power Networks to encourage staff to volunteer in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing sports opportunities.
This is the third year in a row UK Power Networks has granted funding for the team, and in the past it has bought team coats, training balls and equipment.
The under-13s train regularly on Wednesdays at Abbey Green, Chertsey, near to the senior team’s home ground.
The team won their last game of the season 5-2 on 14 May to finish third in the Surrey Youth League Division 2, just missing out on promotion.
Shaun Schofield, a lead commercial manager at UK Power Networks based in Heathrow, said: “The boys have had the current kit for a couple of years and, as you can imagine, boys of that age are growing up and starting to look a little bit silly with short arms and short bodied shirts!
“Team sports is a very important of both of what my children do. It teaches them to work as a team, to win graciously and lose in a magnanimous fashion. The club gives them friendship groups outside of school, and spreads their experience to give them opportunities that they otherwise would not have.
“The boys missed out on promotion this year, but will be back next year to win the league and UK Power Networks’ Team Sport Award support will help them do that.”
Nathan Court, team manager, said: “Thanks to UK Power Networks for this award. It’ll make a big difference to the Chertsey Town under-13 team to have new playing kit next season. All the boys and the coaching team really appreciate it.”
