Crisp kits for New Road FC’s upcoming season

With the new season on the way, New Road Football Club’s under-13s will be taking to the pitch in brand new kits thanks to a £300 Team Sport Award from UK Power Networks.

The Team Sport Awards scheme is run by UK Power Networks to support staff volunteering in the community and is aimed at promoting healthy living, teamwork and developing grassroots sports opportunities.

New Road FC is an FA Charter Standard club in Sheerness, Kent, coaching children of all ages up to a men’s outfit.

The under-13s will be donning blue and white strips this year when the season starts in the Medway District Youth League in September.

This is the fourth year in a row UK Power Networks has granted funding for the team. Club chairman Ashley Temple, who works at UK Power Networks’ Ashford office, applied for the scheme on behalf of his son Connor’s under-13s squad.

Ashley was elected as club chairman last month (July) after previously being vice chairman, arranging kids’ events, tournaments, and presentation days.

The highlight of the under-12s (now under-13s) season last year was the hosting of their first tournament, splitting the under-12s team into two teams – New Road FC Blues and New Road FC Orange, with both teams making the final of the tournament.

“We’re a non-profit club which survives on grants and funds, and even though this is our fourth time, it helps everyone out drastically during the cost-of-living crisis,” Ashley said.

“We finished fourth from bottom last season, so this year we aim to push on and improve with some new additions to the squad!”

Adam Johnson, vice chairman at New Road FC, said: “We are a non-profit organisation and we are so grateful for all the help and support we receive through sponsorship, grants and our own fundraising.

“I’ve had the pleasure of refereeing Ashley’s boys quite a few times, and each time they are getting better and better, and they are a great bunch of kids. With UK Power Networks’ grant we can continue to provide the boys with equipment and kits, which will not only make them better, but continue enjoying playing for this amazing community-based team, or as we say ‘the family club’.”
