Volunteers from a power company stepped out of their day job to spend two days in Clapham and Tooting Community Canteens cooking meals for the local community.

Design team engineers from UK Power Networks, which delivers electricity from the national grid to 8.5 million homes and businesses across London, the South East and East of England, prepared meals for over 65 members of the local Clapham and Tooting communities.

The communities were served through volunteer-run kitchens organised by Be Enriched.

On the menu for the two days included vegetable soups, curries, pastas and apple crumble and custard.

The team, based at the company’s Canning Town office, gave their time through
Donate a Day, which gives employees two days a year to volunteer with local charities and community groups.

Be Enriched CEO Kemi Akinola said: “Thank you to the UK Power Networks team for giving their time and energy to support our Community Canteens.

“Their efforts in the kitchen have made a real difference, providing warm meals and bringing people together. It’s inspiring to see businesses investing in local communities in such a hands on way.”
