‘Energy Lunch & Learn’ supports Horsham residents with practical advice

Electricity company UK Power Networks hosted an Energy Lunch and Learn event in Horsham, to provide the community with practical advice with the Warm Welcome Campaign.

Organised as part of wider community engagement, the event brought together local residents and families for a day of practical support and advice at the Springboard Centre on Friday (November 7).

A total of 47 families visited the centre, with 13 attending for the very first time. Among these families were 51 adults and 62 children, all welcomed while staff distributed leaflets, thermometers, radiator foils, carbon monoxide alarms, and shared plenty of practical advice and useful tips.

Community Energy Pathways, Southern Water, and SGN attended the event to provide guidance to customers who had been struggling with energy bills or required additional help.

The event aligns with the mission of the national Warm Welcome Campaign, which was founded in 2022 to address two of the UK’s most pressing challenges: poverty and chronic loneliness.

With 14.4 million people living in poverty and 7% of the population experiencing chronic loneliness, the campaign aims to turn the tide by connecting communities and creating spaces of belonging.

Warm Welcome champions a network of nearly 5,700 Warm Welcome Spaces across the UK, working with partners from charity, faith, business, government, and philanthropy. Together, they are building a more deeply connected society where everyone has free access to welcoming community spaces.

Across UK Power Networks’ area, there are 1000 Warm Welcome Spaces and the electricity company is working with 10 different champion spaces to provide additional support such as this Lunch & Learn event.

Joanna Lomax, consumer vulnerability manager, at UK Power Networks said, “We were delighted to host the Energy Lunch and Learn in Horsham as part of our commitment to supporting communities through the Warm Welcome Campaign. Bringing together partners like Community Energy Pathways, Southern Water and SGN meant we could offer practical advice and real help to those facing challenges with energy bills or isolation. It’s about creating spaces where people feel supported, connected and empowered.”

David Barclay, Warm Welcome campaign director, said: “We know demand for Warm Welcome Spaces will be high again this winter, not only supporting people struggling to pay the bills but also playing a vital role in connecting communities and giving people a place of belonging. The dark days and nights of winter can be extremely tough. We don’t want anyone to feel cold or alone this winter. That's why we're asking as many community spaces as possible to register with our Campaign.”

The campaign is fuelling a thriving network of hope and reconnection. To find your nearest Warm Welcome Space, visit the online map: https://www.warmwelcome.uk/find-a-space#map.
