Faversham fitness club’s surprise sports award
Members of a fitness club in Faversham were surprised with a grant from a power firm towards new kit for training sessions.
Natasha Epps, who works in UK Power Networks’ procurement team, nominated JAG Outdoor Fitness for a £250 grant after joining the club and loving the workouts.
UK Power Networks runs the Team Sport Award scheme to encourage staff at the firm to volunteer in the community, support grassroots sport and help promote healthy living, teamwork and develop sports opportunities. Such donations are becoming increasingly helpful to local sports clubs during the current ‘cost of living crisis’.
The cash is going towards some additional weights and sports equipment.
Natasha said: “It was a nice surprise to receive the grant from UK Power Networks. JAG Outdoor Fitness is a military fitness club and every session is different. It’s great because the training takes place outside, whatever the weather, and doesn’t stop come rain, shine or snow.
“It’s welcoming and there are a lot of interesting people in the club, so it’s nice to work out and chat. I have made a lot of friends there. If you want to chat and have a gentle workout you can do that but if you want a hard workout you can really push yourself in each session. I really love it.”
Gerrard Dennis, from JAG Outdoor Fitness, said: “It means a lot to us to receive the funding from UK Power Networks and our members are really pleased about it.
“Our hour-long bootcamp style fitness classes by experienced instructors guide you through exercise circuits to suit all abilities to challenge your body to be fitter and stronger. Members training with us become part of our JAG community and experience friendship, support and camaraderie, helping them to push themselves in a fun environment.”
JAG Outdoor Fitness runs its fitness sessions in the idyllic grounds of Mount Ephraim, near Faversham. The club has around 30 members who meet Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
