Festive delivery supports Sussex homeless community
Electricity workers in Crawley have rallied together to support those facing homelessness this Christmas.
UK Power Networks staff donated food, clothes and toiletries to Crawley Open House, which runs year-round homelessness support services next to the firm’s offices in Stephenson Way and is constantly in need of fresh supplies to meet demand.
Teams filled boxes with tins, jars and treats, gloves, hats, scarves, toiletries and other essential to help those facing homelessness.
Paul Yiu of Crawley Open House said: “Staff from UK Power Networks have always been very supportive of Crawley Open House and our work. In the past they have sent us donations of clothes, food and toiletries numerous times, as well as organising volunteers to take over our hostel kitchen to cook and serve lunch to our residents and service users.
“The items they donated this Christmas are a continuation of their commitment to helping people who find themselves homeless, struggling with loneliness and disadvantaged locally. We are so grateful for their ongoing help.”
Inga Wharfe, collection organiser at UK Power Networks, said: “Working alongside Crawley Open House we know there are many people facing the harsh reality of homelessness. A hot meal, a safe bed, and a sense of hope can make all the difference.
“The demand for supplies at Crawley Open House never stops, and each donation brings hope and comfort. Our team wanted to show gratitude to the amazing staff and volunteers who give their time and energy to help people in difficult circumstances - not just at Christmas, but every day.”
Crawley Open House provides refuge for up to 60 people each night serving East Grinstead, Cuckfield, Horsham, Haywards Heath, Horley, and Crawley. Services include a high-support hostel, drop-in facilities for practical and emotional support, help for rough sleepers, thousands of meals a year and programmes for resettlement and life skills.
The charity operates largely thanks to community donations and fundraising, and welcomes donations, volunteering, and fundraising. To find out more visit www.crawleyopenhouse.co.uk.
UK Power Networks staff have organised collections across a dozen offices in London, Bury St Edmunds, Gatwick, Aldershot, Heathrow, Chatham and Crawley to help a dozen charities helping those in need this Christmas.
